Collection of Information
Information Collected and Stored Automatically
When you browse, read pages or download information on ET.gov, we automatically
gather and store certain technical information about your visit. This
information never identifies who you are. The information we collect and store
about your visit is listed below:
-
The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a private Internet
access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you connect from a university's domain)
and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to
your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our
website;
-
The type of browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) and operating system
(Windows, Unix) used to access our site;
-
The date and time you access our site;
-
The pages you visit; and
-
If you linked to the ET.gov website from another website, the address of that
website.
This information is only used to help us make the site more useful for you.
With this data we learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types
of technology our visitors use. We never track or record information about
individuals and their visits.
Personal Information/Privacy
Personal Information
To protect the integrity of the ET.gov site and guard against false
impersonation, if you choose to identify a proposed ET component, you must
provide a valid e-mail address to be used solely to authenticate that you are
actually the person submitting the Web address (URL) of the XML instance
document describing your proposed component. E-mail addresses are not captured
or maintained on ET.gov site.
If you choose to use it, a form on ET.gov does allow you to create a valid XML
instance document containing contact information, including optional personal
data, in the event you may wish to make such information available on your own
website or the site of any intermediary you may choose to use. Whether you
choose to provide any such information is solely at your discretion.
If you do post contact information elsewhere on the Web and provide the Web
address (URL) for the valid XML instance document, a hypertext link will be
provided on the ET.gov site for the benefit of users who may wish to contact
you. ET.gov does not capture, index, or store the information entered on the
contact information form. ET.gov never creates individual profiles or shares
personal information. ET.gov never collects information for marketing purposes,
nor will we knowingly link to any site that does so as a direct result of
visiting a page to which we link. The collection of such information may be
cause for us to remove a link to any such page.
